Designing Your Website

Designing a custom website is often a partnership between the web designer and the client. Granted, there are times when a person just wants a website and doesn't care what style or appearance it has, but most of the time, the client wants to provide input into what the final outcome looks like. People have different styles and tastes... it would be a pretty boring world if that weren't true. Even if a person doesn't know what he or she wants their website to look like, they'll usually know what they don't like. I'm not satisfied until YOUR satisfied.. and you don't pay an hourly fee for me to get it right. One thing The Netonator is... is patient.

It's fairly easy to find a place that will design your website using pre-formed templates and basic colors. Finding someone who will invest the time and effort in making your website suit your style and desires... ahhh, that's a much harder task. Simply put, I love what I do and I'm a perfectionist. I would do this even if I didn't get paid for it... as a matter of fact, I have been for many years.

The Process

The process of building your website is pretty simple, but it does take time. We can provide a simple web presence for you in just a few minutes, but to construct and conform a website to your desires takes creativity and time. We first ascertain what you would like for your site to do, the approximate size it will be and the type and source of content. This information will be used to give you a cost estimate. We then obtain a general idea of what sort of design elements your prefer. (Click here for a list of questions you might ask yourself.) I'll give you a list of websites to check out and you can do some surfing on your own to get a feel for what you like and what you don't like. At the same time, you'll need to think about what you would like your domain name to be.

After we have an idea of what your website should look like, I'll go to work and design a few rough templates. This is the basic page that all of your pages will get their "look" from. You'll then pick the one you like the best and we'll refine it  (and if you don't like any of them, I'll go back to the drawing board.) Once we have the look that's YOU and I get your design approval, I'll email to you a link to your personal contract (or mail it by U.S. Mail if you prefer.) After you sign the contract and make the required deposit, we'll go to work on the content. Only you know what information and capabilities that you want your website to contain. However, I'll work with you by giving you suggestions and information. If you'd like help developing the content, I can provide research, proofing and even write it for you. I have access to countless images and sound files. As an accomplished photographer, I can "shoot" your location. As a graphic artist, I can provide logos and enhance photographs and images through digital manipulation.

Sometimes, people want to provide more than just information on their website. If you have items that you would like to sell, we can set up an E-Commerce site that will enable visitors to purchase these items online. Would you like input from your site visitors? We can design custom forms that sends information to you from your site visitors.

Once construction is complete and your final approval is received, we will activate your website so that it can be viewed by the world. My job, however, is not over. At this point I begin the process of listing your website with search engines and appropriate directories.
